Research & Teaching Research Projects

The museums and collections of Heidelberg University are active sites of interdisciplinary research. Researchers from various disciplines, from archaeology and biology to art history, work here hand in hand and use the diverse holdings for innovative research questions.

The projects range from historical provenance research and the analysis of geological and zoological exhibits to the digital indexing and preparation of the collections. In the process, a lively transfer of knowledge arises between the institutes, opening new perspectives and making the collections visible as a valuable resource for teaching and research.

The results of this work are made accessible to a broad public in various ways: through scholarly publications, public lectures, and digital formats such as blogs or virtual exhibitions. In this way, the research projects not only contribute to scholarly knowledge, but also invite people to explore the holdings of the Heidelberg collections anew.
