Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS) COLLECTIONS OF THE CENTRE FOR ASIAN AND TRANSCULTURAL STUDIES

The Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies maintains extensive collections in its library and regularly makes them publicly accessible in exhibitions.
The CATS Library—the library of the Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies—brings together several libraries from different departments that emerged over the course of the 20th century: the South Asia Institute, the Centre for East Asian Studies, the Institute of Anthropology, and the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) were consolidated here in 2019 into one research area. With its extensive holdings, the CATS Library ranks among the largest centres for Asian media in Europe. It holds around 600,000 monographs and journals, more than 7,000 audiovisual media items, about 150,000 additional media such as slides, posters, and microforms, as well as 550 current print subscriptions and digital source collections. The library’s collections are regularly made publicly accessible in exhibitions.
